The Cottage
Mil Bothy was completed in 2014 for Annick Merlin's elderly mother, all on single level, with wheelchair access and up to the door parking.
Situated overlooking Finsbay with the sea lapping against the surrounding rocks below. With vistas across the Minch to the Cuillins on Skye 18 miles south-east, and as far as 55 miles south-south-west to the South Uist hills. There is rarely a dull moment, from flat blue calm to angry nature showing its most powerful might.
We are remote. Mil Bothy is just 100 yards beyond our house, which is 400 yards from the Quidinish road. Sit on the patio on the south side of the cottage and you forget the world you have left behind.
The main living room and kitchen is spacious and open plan, with nothing beyond but sea and landscape.
The lounge/dining area has comfortable armchairs and settees. Mil Bothy is curtained with Harris Tweed woven by Donald John Mackay, recently awarded the MBE for his work in reviving the Harris Tweed industry, greatly aided by his late wife Maureen. Go to Luskentyre and you can see him busy at his loom.
By request we can set up a table tennis table for guests use. TV, DVD player, radio and wi-fi are all available.
"We couldn’t have found anywhere better to stay than here at Mil Bothy. This cottage has everything that you may need or could want - whatever the weather!" M & A W. Maidstone
Kitchen
The kitchen is well equipped, with cooking by gas. There is a large fridge-freezer. The generous sized walnut worktops double as a breakfast bar. There is a large walk-in larder, and opposite a utility area with a washing machine and microwave.
Cooking essentials are provided, with cooking oil, condiments, flour, sauces and spices, which we invite you to use freely and replace as necessary.
Hot water and central heating is by an eco-friendly glass-fronted pellet-burning stove in the lounge, all very snug.
